Disaster Management is a tool used to prevent, reduce, mitigate and prepare for effective response and post disaster recovery to any disaster risks that may occur or threaten to occur. It requires effective community base strategies which will include programmes and measures to prevent or reduce hazards and their impact, to ensure the preparedness of the community, provide an effective response and provide for the recovery of a community affected by such an incident.
Disaster management is a cross cutting and developmental issue. Risk Reduction will require the involvement of political, technical, participatory and resource mobilisation components of the society.
Ehlanzeni District Municipality is primary responsible for disaster management within its area of jurisdiction. In order to fulfil its primary mandate, Ehlanzeni District Municipality needs to adhere to the National Disaster Management framework, Provincial Disaster Management framework and the Disaster Management Act.
